Korbulic Steps Down

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) – After a month on the job, the interim head of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation is leaving the post, citing threats that she’s received.

Back on May 1st, Governor Steve Sisolak appointed Heather Korbulic to replace Tiffany Tyler-Garner. Korbulic was hired at a time when Nevada was facing records numbers of the suddenly unemployed who were affected by the closures of casinos and non-essential businesses that were mandated in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The chief complaint of many was that the system set up for filing of unemployment claims was inefficient and slow. The Governor even admitted that the way the system was set up wasn’t capable of handling the sudden crush of filers that were seen beginning in late March.

The nature of the threats toward Korbulic aren’t known. She will return to her former job as head of the Silver State Healthcare Exchange.

A new DETR director is expected to be named later this week.
