Nevada Insurance Exchange Expanding Enrollment Because of Virus

Nevada’s public health insurance marketplace is offering another enrollment period because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange announced today it will open an exceptional circumstance special enrollment period for Nevadans who missed the open enrollment period earlier this year.

The period will run from today to April 15.

Eligible individuals can enroll online through Nevada Health Link.

The customer assistance call center for the exchange is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at 1-800-547-2927. The call center will extend its hours on weekends, except for Easter Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to April 15. The exchange encourages people to work with “a certified broker or navigator to enroll.”

“I am calling on all uninsured Nevadans, even if you are healthy, to take advantage of this special opportunity to gain access to health insurance coverage through the exchange,” Gov. Steve Sisolak said. “The COVID-19 virus is an unfortunate but important reminder that our health and well-being should be top priority and gaining access to insurance is a critical step in that process.”

Heather Korbulic, the executive director of the exchange, said Nevadans should see this as an integral time to ensure their coverage.

“Nevadans deserve to have peace of mind to take care of all their health needs, and given today’s exceptional circumstances, we are enabling those who are qualified to enroll and gain access to the vital services they may need,” she said.

There have been 42 cases of coronavirus and one related death in Nevada.
