More Than 288K New Consumers Sign Up for Covered Calif. Plans

Covered California officials have announced that nearly 300,000 new consumers have signed up for a health plan via the state exchange during its second open enrollment period, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.

The period began on Nov. 15, 2014, and runs through Feb. 15 (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 2/6).
Details of Enrollment

As of Feb. 2, about 288,558 new consumers had enrolled in a plan through Covered California during the current open enrollment period.

Data show that the counties with the highest number of new enrollees so far are:

-Los Angeles County, with 81,321 new enrollees;
-San Diego County, with 28,394 new enrollees; and
-Orange County, with 27,653 new enrollees.

Meanwhile, the areas of the state with the lowest number of new enrollees are:

-Alpine County, with fewer than 10 new enrollees;
-Sierra County, with 22 new enrollees; and
-Modoc County, with 57 new enrollees.

On Friday, Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee said the exchange was ramping up outreach efforts as the enrollment deadline nears. He said, “We’re traveling across the state to make sure everyone knows that the deadline to enroll for coverage is only … days away” (Covered California release, 2/6).
