Sutter Plans Major New Bay Area Hospital. Here’s Where

Sutter Health plans to open a major new hospital in Santa Clara by 2031, the provider announced Monday.

The eight-story, 850,000-square-foot facility from one of Northern California’s largest hospital systems will include 272 beds, an emergency department, intensive care unit, labor and delivery department and other services. It will be located at 2831 and 2841 Mission College Blvd. near Levi’s Stadium, and replace an existing office park.

The hospital is part of a multi-year, multi-site expansion in Santa Clara by Sutter Health, which is headquartered in Sacramento. The medical center will be part of Sutter West Santa Clara Campus, a five-building, 700,000-square-foot campus that will also include cancer, orthopedic and sports medicine, women’s health, heart and vascular care. Some of the buildings on the campus will begin opening in 2027; the hospital is slated to open in 2031.

In October, Sutter opened a nearby facility, Sutter East Santa Clara Campus, that includes primary care, speciality care, ambulatory surgery and urgent care totaling about 300,000 square feet.

The East and West campuses combined cost an estimated $2.8 billion.

“This investment expands access, advances clinical excellence and strengthens the coordinated experience for patients and families across the region,” Sutter Health CEO Warner Thomas said in a statement.
